Well they are not glued on the block in the first picture.

Part of having LS1 heads fit a SBF is having them bolt down, this would be kind of hard if the LS1 heads used five bolts. I don't mean to be a prick, but come on now...

That breakdown is for someone who does their own metal fabrication and is already buying a custom cam. I could build that intake in a weekend; and if you run an Explorer ignition setup, you dont need a distributor sticking though the manifold. Also, if you are purchasing a custom cam, it wouldnt be much more to make the cam lobes backwards.

sounds like we found a fabricator to do the build for 250$ and put a sticky on the thread when hes done

Don't forget to factor in the cost of custom headgaskets and pushrod length, and have fun bolting your accesories on! Also, do the heads use the same valve angles? Sounds like more work than it's worth but maybe a fun one to tackle, I'll keep this in mind for the 351w block I have out in the garage.

I still find it pretty neat that it fit or someone even thought it try it. However, blasphemous!

I'm glad you said this. haha.
I just don't know what HUGE advantage it would have to use the Ford block
PS- I know this is an old post but still cool topic.

Even if you got rid of the dizzy you still need the cam sensor or something to spin the oil pump.

I think this is cool but not realistic when an entire ls can be had under $600 from a junkyard, I have heard of some as low as 350 bucks. Plus the ls block can handle double the HP/TQ as the ford.

    Agreed

Im guessing this never took off HAHAHA

Yeah, no shit. Why build your house on a foundation of sand? LSes are still in production, Windsors have long since come and gone. While I think it's a cool thing to do just to say you've done it once it's far from practical. If the stock cam was serviceable it would be a lot less expensive, and maybe even worth casting some new intakes for swapping this on. A lower that was compatible with 5.0 uppers would make this a fairly headache free way to go honestly. Even so you can get a basic set of aluminum heads for about a grand now. I mean the LS engines are great but it's mostly because you can pick em up from the JY for almost nothing. If Windsors or Gen 1 Chevies were available for similar pricing they'd probably be just as buildable IMO. It's not like their head flow #s are insanely below that of a set of unported 5.3/4.8 truck heads.

Then again, I always thought it would be cool to use the LS1 style ports on a Buick Grand National and make custom heads and intake. Could be really nice from an mpg and average power stand point. Then again I'm not sure how many people have the nuts to rev one to use the flow even a basic set of stock LS6 heads makes.

    Agreed.

I mean what is the point? There are plenty of used aluminum Ford heads out there that will flow just as good, or better than the ls.

True blue Ford guys, like me, won't touch them.

Now if you can find a cheap way to put a set of DOHC heads off of a Cobra, then that would be great.

Very interesting but I have to agree with just swapping the entire engine for an LS. I just don`t see any advantage to doing this...at all.

Interestingly enough, nobody has said the reverse of this should be that Ford heads will fit on a chevy block.

Well, the upside of that would be that you'd never have to worry about it making enough power to break anything.

I’m anLS fan and a ford fan, and I think I’m fairly unbiased when in come to the holeford chevy deal.
Stock4V clevelands will make more power than a stock ls bottom end can handle.
The un ported ls heads flow better than ported iron gt40 heads and will set youback half as much. The only ford head that is comparable to the ls heads is the2v clevelands. Im not sure what machine work run in the lower 48, but up herein alaska it will run you 1000 to 1200 to have a set of heads set up for goodhp and rpms. i picked up a set of 317 castings for $140 of CL. Add $50 inaluminum for the intake, $600 for a cam, and you can make550 to 600 hp at7000rpm on a STOCK 351W bottom end with good bolts. seems ok to me. I personallyam in progress on a 408 4V clevor build. I considered runnin the ls heads justfor fun, and still may someday build one on the cheap just to say I did.

So you got a quote of $600 to make a cam with the intake and exhaust lobes switched to match the LS heads?
